lighting photography tips|Tips for photography lighting indoors?

The following are not relevant to the content of some – lighting photography tips, but classic:Behind every successful man, there is a woman. And behind every unsuccessful man, there are two.A stitch in time saves nine. One meets its destiny on the road he takes to avoid it..Save water. Shower with your girlfriend.。!World Water Day 22/3.

Q&A–: Tips for photography lighting indoors?
I know this is WAY early but I’m planning on taking family portraits for christmas. I’m using our christmas tree as a background with the lights on. I would like to know if I should add more light to the room or should I just use the flash. Also, any tips for the right aperture, ISO, shutter speed settings. Can someone help me out?
TYPE OF CAMERA: Canon Powershot SX230 HS (One of Canon’s high end point and shoot cameras) I can set all settings on it and such.
I’m not looking to get professional quality photos out of this. I just want some tips so the photos will come out decent. I’m planning on getting an SLR camera soon (specifically looking at the Canon T3i).

What to bring: Your digital camera, flash, tripod, a fresh battery and memory card. Students not completely familiar with their camera controls should bring their user’s manual.

Introduction to Macro Nature Photography

Somewhere between what the eye can see and what shows up under a microscope is a world of wonders. Have you seen a dragonfly’s whiskers? Or a Monarch butterfly caterpillar hatching from the egg? All of these wonders can be discovered using a camera with a macro lens. As long as your camera or lens has a “macro” setting, it should be suitable for this class.

Macro photography is the craft and art of photographing small subjects, such as insects, flowers, or frogs, revealing detail not visible to the naked eye – nature’s hidden gems. Join Cletus Lee and discover the techniques for getting the most out of depth of field, lighting, and focusing with really small subjects.

The class is aimed at beginners as well as seasoned photographers with a desire to explore nature up close. Emphasis will be on technique along with some tips and tricks to get the subject in front of the lens.

Indoor Workshop: Friday, October 7 from 7 – 9 pm
Field Workshop: Saturday, October 8 from 8 am – noon

The Thursday evening class will discuss
• Equipment used in making macro photographs.
• Getting the most out of natural light and how to use supplemental lighting when necessary.
• Obtaining the best exposure settings for macro camera operations.
• Image composition in the field and cropping in post processing when time or situation does not permit the best composition.

The Saturday morning part of the class will be outside on the Nature Discovery Center grounds finding and photographing anything that wants to pose for a photo. The last hour will be a classroom session to review some of the morning’s photos taken by the students and discuss techniques used to take these photos.

Note: Cletus will also offer Introduction to Basic Nature Photography on September 22 & 24

About the Instructor: Cletus Lee is a native of Virginia and received a degree in Geology from Virginia Tech. After an interesting career in the Oil & Gas industry, followed by another in Information Sciences, he retired in 2008 to pursue nature photography, a longtime passion. He is an amateur arachnologist and entomologist with a lifelong passionate interest in nature. You can view his “Bug” Galleries on Flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/cletuslee/sets/)
